Mark trained as a traditional boat builder and has worked in the marine industry and campaigned boats all his adult life. Together with his Olympic teammate in Sydney 2000 he won a silver medal in the Star class. Mark then went on to spend two years in Auckland with GBR Challenge, sailing in the America’s Cup 2003-2004.

Mark’s next move was to develop his media career covering sailing events; he worked with APP Sunset and Vine on the MedCup and Extreme 40 Circuit. He also commentated during the Louis Vuitton Cup in Valencia in 2007 for ACM Radio and Sky TV.  These projects led to his chance to join the crew in the Volvo Ocean Race as on board media man during the 2008-09 edition.  He then went on to document the first Indian Ocean 5 Capes Race from on-board the giant 105-foot trimaran, Majan for Oman Sail.
